FTC settles first case against VoIP provider for allowing illegal robocalls

This FTC settlement must be a wake-up call to phone service providers so they do more to protect consumers. If not, the FTC must be vigilant in going after companies that enable the immoral practice of preying on consumers. And the FCC should require providers to block spoofed calls that we all know are scams.

New study indicates toxic chemicals used in take-out food packaging from popular chains

A new study that tested for PFAS in food containers from six restaurant chains found that, out of 29 unique samples, 14 tested above the screening level for fluorine, suggesting PFAS treatment.

New data: Illinois receives “Caution Warranted”ranking for COVID-19 containment as outbreak worsens around the country

With the number of COVID-19 cases continuing to rise nationally, Illinois PIRG and Open Safe Illinois released its new Weekly Trends & Risk Assessment Report, grading Illinois as “Caution Warranted” when it comes to meeting COVID-19 containment criteria. This is the third week the coalition has provided a snapshot of Illinois’ coronavirus efforts. Last week, Illinois received a “trending poorly” grade.

A new coalition of health, labor, aging and public interest organizations launched “Open Safe Illinois” on Thursday to amplify the voices of Illinois residents, the majority of whom support public health-driven decision making by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and local leaders.
